NAIDOC on the Foreshore: Saturday 5 July | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Celebrate NAIDOC Week at the Airlie Beach Foreshore with a vibrant morning of cultural connection, storytelling and hands-on experiences for all ages.

Program Highlights:
9:15 AM – Welcome to Country & Smoking Ceremony

Begin the morning with a traditional welcome and cleansing ceremony.

9:30 AM – Cultural Dance Performance
Experience an engaging performance celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

Yooribaya Film Screenings - 9:00 AM | 10:00 AM | 11:00 AM
Immerse yourself in powerful stories of Country, culture, and connection.

Activities (9:30 AM – 12:00 PM):

  • Weaving Workshop – Learn traditional weaving techniques
  • Artifact Workshop – Discover tools and the cultural stories behind them
  • Creative Activities – Try your hand at sand art, rock painting, and ochre painting
  • Market Stall – Browse handmade crafts and cultural goods

Come along for a morning of celebration, learning and cultural appreciation at the Airlie Beach Community Markets. All are welcome.

 

Walking in the Footsteps of Ancestors – NAIDOC Nature Walk, Brandy Creek, Great Whitsunday Walk: Sunday 13 July 2025 | 12:00 PM

Celebrate NAIDOC Week with an unforgettable Traditional Owner-led nature walk through the stunning landscapes of Brandy Creek along the Great Whitsunday Walk.

Guided by Traditional Owners, this immersive experience offers a rare opportunity to explore the cultural significance of Country—learning about bush tucker, traditional land management and the spiritual connection First Nations peoples hold with the land, flora and fauna.

As you walk in the footsteps of ancestors, you’ll hear stories passed down through generations and gain a deeper understanding of the 2025 NAIDOC theme. Whether you're a local or visitor, this is a meaningful opportunity to connect, reflect and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and traditions.

What to Bring: Comfortable walking shoes, hat, water bottle, sunscreen, and a spirit of curiosity and respect.

Cost: Free, but registrations are essential.

AimBig Employment NAIDOC Community BBQ at Pioneer Park: Wednesday 9 July | 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM

Join AimBig Employment for a relaxed and family-friendly celebration of NAIDOC Week at Pioneer Park, Proserpine.

This inclusive community BBQ is a chance to come together and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through connection, creativity and community spirit.

Enjoy a Welcome to Country, a free BBQ lunch, face painting for the kids, and the opportunity to contribute to a collaborative community artwork. Explore a local display of traditional arts and crafts, showcasing the stories and talents of First Nations artists from the region.

Everyone is welcome—come along, join the fun, and help us honour culture, community, and Country.

Bowen

NAIDOC Flag Raising & Street Parade: Monday 7 July | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Bowen Town Square to Bowen Foreshore

Join Girudala as they proudly celebrate the opening of NAIDOC Week 2025 with a morning of community pride, unity and culture.

The event will begin at 9:00 AM at Bowen Town Square with a flag raising ceremony and official speeches, followed by a street parade and community march to the Bowen Foreshore.

Once at the foreshore, enjoy a community cake cutting and continue the celebrations until 12:00 PM.

All are welcome to come along, show their support and celebrate together.

NAIDOC Family Fun Day at the Bowen Foreshore: Saturday 12 July | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Join Girudala for a fun-filled day of culture, community and connection at the Bowen Foreshore.

Celebrate Juru culture with traditional ceremonies, cultural dance performances, community speeches, the NAIDOC community awards, live entertainment and activities for all ages.
