Whitsunday Bushfire Resilience Training

Whitsunday Regional Council is offering bushfire resilience training to support landowners throughout the region in preparation for the upcoming bushfire season.

Mayor Julie Hall said bushfire training is an essential part of preparing for bushfire season.

“The training provides an opportunity to learn how to assess bushfire risk, understand mitigation options, and support available to help mitigate bushfire risk,” Mayor Hall said.

“It provides landowners with the knowledge and skills they need to help protect their property and their community.”

Upcoming training in hazard management and traditional burning is planned for:

  • Proserpine at SES Shed - 13 May - learn in practice by observing a planned burn 14 May at Silver Creek Road
  • Collinsville at Opal Ridge Hotel – 20 May - learn in practice by observing a planned burn 21 May at Collinsville Transfer Station
  • Bowen at Queens Beach Hotel – 27 May - learn in practice by observing a planned burn 28 May at Brisk Bay

Mayor Hall said Council encourages all landowners to take advantage of the opportunity and attend the upcoming training.

“It's a chance to learn from the experts, ask questions, and get hands-on experience,"

"By investing in bushfire resilience training and property bushfire plans, we are demonstrating our commitment to the safety and protection of our community. We urge all interested landowners to register their interest and attend the upcoming training."

The Whitsunday Bushfire Resilience Project is funded by the Commonwealth Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Program. This program is also supporting the development of FREE Property Bushfire Plans, undertaken by our Council Bushfire Officer, that supports eligibility for grant funding to deliver firefighting mitigations within the plan of up to $2,000, matched 50:50 between landholder and Council.
