Whitsunday Disaster Management Group moves to Stand Up

Published on 10 January 2026

The Whitsunday Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has activated to Stand Up in response to severe weather forecast to affect the Whitsunday region over the coming days.

With heavy rainfall, damaging winds and the potential for flash flooding expected as the system develops, the move to Stand Up allows council and emergency partners to increase readiness and coordinate support where required.

Mayor Ry Collins said the activation reflects a proactive approach to keeping the community informed and safe as conditions change.

“Our focus is on preparedness and ensuring we are ready to respond to any impacts across the region. We’re asking residents to stay alert, plan ahead and follow official advice as this weather system approaches,” Mayor Collins said.
