New Airport Lounge Boosts Island Visitor Experience

Published on 30 March 2026

Whitsunday Coast Airport is strengthening its role as the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands, partnering with Daydream Island Resort to introduce a dedicated guest lounge within the arrivals area of the terminal, opening 30 March.

Designed exclusively for Daydream Island Resort guests, the lounge will provide a seamless arrival experience for travellers flying into the Whitsundays before transferring to the island.

Featuring comfortable seating, refreshment facilities including a coffee machine, and a dedicated flight information display, the lounge will provide a relaxed and premium environment for guests awaiting transfers or departures.

Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Ry Collins said the initiative highlights the important role Whitsunday Coast Airport plays in supporting the region’s visitor economy.

“Whitsunday Coast Airport is the front door to the Whitsunday Islands, and initiatives like this help ensure the experience for visitors arriving in our region reflects the premium destination we are proud to offer,” Mayor Collins said.

“As a Council-owned and operated airport, we are focused on leveraging every opportunity to strengthen partnerships with tourism operators and deliver the best possible experience for visitors travelling to the Whitsundays.”

“Partnerships like this not only enhance the visitor journey but also help drive visitation through our regional airport, supporting local tourism businesses, jobs and the broader economy.”

Director of Commercial Businesses Craig Turner said the partnership demonstrates the airport’s growing collaboration with tourism operators and airlines to create a more connected visitor experience.

“Whitsunday Coast Airport continues to evolve as a key gateway to the islands, and working with tourism partners like Daydream Island Resort helps create a seamless journey for visitors from aircraft to island,” Mr Turner said.

“By strengthening direct arrival pathways for island guests, partnerships like this help drive more visitors through Whitsunday Coast Airport while creating new opportunities to work with airlines and tourism operators to grow travel options to the Whitsundays.”

Future enhancements planned for the lounge include a dedicated Daydream Island team member, in-lounge check-in facilitation, concierge-style services, and the ability for guests to pre-book tours, experiences and restaurant reservations.

The partnership also opens opportunities for integrated travel packages, allowing guests to book flights and transfers through to Daydream Island as part of a single seamless journey.

Together, these improvements further position Whitsunday Coast Airport as a high-quality regional gateway and support the continued growth of the Whitsundays as one of Australia’s most iconic tourism destinations.
