Community invited to have a say on Whitsunday electoral arrangements
Whitsunday Regional Council is inviting residents to share their views on electoral arrangements for the 2028 local government elections, with community consultation now underway.
The consultation will consider whether the Whitsunday Regional Council should remain divided into six councillor divisions, or move to an undivided model, where councillors are elected to represent the region as a whole alongside the Mayor.
The engagement period runs from 10 January to 22 February, with feedback being gathered through a mix of online, in-person, telephone and hardcopy options to ensure broad community representation.
Residents can complete the survey online via Your Say Whitsunday, access fact sheets, or provide feedback in person at information stalls across the region, including Cannonvale, Proserpine, Bowen and Collinsville.
To strengthen participation Council will also conduct a telephone survey of 500 residents, delivered independently by Taverner Research Group.
Mayor Ry Collins said the consultation is an important opportunity for the community to help shape how they are represented in future elections.
“Electoral arrangements affect how voices across our region are heard. We want to ensure the decision for 2028 is informed by strong, representative community feedback,” Mayor Collins said.
Hardcopy surveys are available at Customer Service Centres and libraries, and updates will be shared through Council’s digital channels, local media and radio throughout the consultation period.
