Shale Oil Mining Bid Debate Minimize

It has long been known that there is Shale Oil under the Proserpine Airport. A U.S company has been investigating the feasability of mining the Shale Oil in this area.  However, the State Government has announced a 20 year moratorium on all mining activities in the area. Council and the proponents signed the Infrastructure Agreement in early March 2006.

Work is now underway, and a Community Reference Group has been formed to coordinate communications between the developers, local community and other stakeholders.
