Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking volunteers for the 2016 Whitsunday Schoolies which will run from Saturday 19 November to Wednesday 23 November 2016.
Whitsunday Schoolies is a five day (5) safety response which is expected to attract approximately 3000 young people to the region.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said the Whitsunday Schoolies program relies heavily on volunteers to provide supervised, planned activities for Year 12 school leavers to have fun in a safe environment.
“The Schoolies Advisory Committee needs the support of the community to deliver a successful Schoolies Safety Response Program for young people from within Queensland and interstate,” Mayor Willcox said.
“Volunteers are required for a range of duties including assistance at the registration area and the Chill Out Zone. The Chill Out Zone operates from 7pm to 2am each night and is particularly important as it provides Schoolies a safe place to access assistance and support if required,” he said.
“Each year we have fantastic support from the Queensland Police Service, SES, Red Frogs, CHOICES, schools, service groups, accommodation providers and local venues and I thank them for their assistance.
“Any time commitment will be appreciated by the Schoolies Advisory Committee.”
The registration area involves checking school Id’s, collecting registration fees and providing receipts whereas the Chill Out Zone volunteers provide first aid, offer support and make the Schoolies feel comfortable.
All volunteers must possess a current Working with Children Positive Notice Blue Card.
