Whitsunday Regional Council today resolved to pledge $2,000 to become a Silver Partner ofBowen Gumlu Growers Association Inc (BGGA).
Mayor Jenny Whitney said this partnership program will provide financial assistance to BowenGumlu Growers Association Inc and as a result Council will receive networking and advertisingopportunities through the association.
“This is a mutually beneficial partnership and additionally a wonderful opportunity for Councilto assist the BGGA and local growers in the region,” she said.
“The Bowen Gumlu region is the largest winter vegetable harvesting region in Australia,supplying fruit and vegetables to both domestic and international markets with BGGA beingthe first point of contact for the growers in this region.
“This Partnership Program ensures continued support is provided by BGGA to the localgrowers in a range of areas including employment of a fulltime Industry Development Officer,general industry development, workforce development, research and development,biosecurity, market access, pest and disease issues to name a few.
“Pledging to become a silver partner will ensure Council receives networking and advertisingopportunities as well as invitations to the annual Gala Dinner and BGGA General meetings.
“Council views this as an effective way to financially support the local growers association whilealso gaining from their networking opportunities,” she said.
