Whitsunday Regional Council’s Proserpine depot crew has saved Council and ultimately theWhitsunday community time and money by undertaking repairs on the taxiway at WhitsundayCoast Airport.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said as part of the general maintenance program an issue was identified on the taxiway near the apron at the airport, which needed to be fixed.
“Proserpine’s depot crew was deployed on Wednesday afternoon around 4pm after the last flightof the day to begin work on the tarmac,” she said.
“By 10pm that same evening the work was complete and the airport was operational again, ready for the first flight the next morning.
“The crew scraped out the identified area, put in a new base and laid new bitumen over the area, resulting in a smooth finish.
“By using Council employees and resources it has cost Council about a quarter of what a privatecontractor would have charged and the job was completed very quickly.
“The airport staff worked closely with the depot crew to complete this task so efficiently.
“I’d like to thank and congratulate everyone involved in undertaking this repair work, which wascompleted so quickly enabling seamless operation of our airport,” she said.Pictures of the maintenance work attached.
