Whitsunday Regional Council is conducting a phone survey as part of the public consultationinvolved in the development of the new draft Whitsunday Regional Council Planning Scheme.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said the phone survey will canvas 380 local residents’ views over the nexttwo weeks on planning and development issues in the Whitsunday region.
“Your opinions and feedback are important and will assist the Council in terms of the futureplanning and development of our community,” she said.
“In November last year, Council publicly released the new draft Whitsunday Regional CouncilPlanning Scheme which will cover the whole Whitsunday region and replace two existing schemes in place for Bowen and Whitsunday.
“When these draft documents were released last year, Council committed to undertaking publicconsultation on the new draft planning scheme in 2015.
“The ten question phone survey will ask what you consider to be priorities for planning anddevelopment in the region.
“The phone survey will gauge the community’s opinion on; liveable communities, infrastructure, economic development, environmental issues, natural hazard management, employment, tourism and agricultural protection.
“The information gathered will assist Council in informing the rest of the public consultation around the new draft planning scheme, along with the finalisation of the drafting of the scheme.
“Community workshops on the new planning scheme will be held in townships across the region in April,” she said.
