Whitsunday Regional Council’s Human Social Recovery Group is working with all local human social groups and organisations to ensure that all services are brought back online as quickly as possible.
Chair of the Human Social Recovery Group Cr Ron Petterson said it was important these services were maintained long term for all community members and groups across the region.
“From financial assistance to housing support and emotional and social well-being it is vital that these networks are well coordinated and remain accessible.
“Advice from the Department Of Communities and Department Of Housing is that most people having been processed through the Recovery Hubs and those departments are now looking to scale back the size of the recovery hubs as fewer people are attending.
“The focus will now turn to smaller localised referral hubs for the longer term and more outreach popup hubs in the outer localities.
“There are still a small number of people requiring housing and Department Of Housing are working hard with those people to get them into accommodation as soon as possible,” Cr Petterson said.
The Human Social Recovery Group will continue to consult with a range of groups and services across the region including Salvation Army, Rotary, Red Cross, GIVIT, Department of Education QPS, Sport and Recreation and Qld Reconstruction Agency.
