Hamilton Plains Flood Camera

Whitsunday Regional Council has recently installed a flood camera on Shute Harbour Road at Hamilton Plains to allow the community to better prepare and view the road which has long been a well-known flood water hotspot.

The images below show both directions of Shute Harbour Road at Hamilton Plains at the locations where peak flooding tends to occur.

 Important information:

 - The date and time is displayed at the bottom of each image
 - The images will be updated approximately every 15 minutes
 - The general public are advised that night vision is not available - these cameras only operate during the day.

The installation of the Hamilton Plains Flood Camera also provides Whitsunday Regional Council, Whitsunday Disaster Management Group and Emergency Service Agencies with additional functions, information and data.  These include:

 - Electronic water level monitoring
 - Automated SMS alert system to Council works crews, Police and SES to activate road closures
 - Full camera control
 - Limited night vision capabilities

Any flooded road can be deadly and the condition of the road surface underneath is not known until flood waters subside. It also doesn't matter what size your vehicle is, flood waters are dangerous for all vehicles. When considering your journey, always have a Plan B and equip yourself with multiple alternative routes to stay safe.

As soon as you enter flood water, you are giving up control of your vehicle - if it's flooded, forget it!
