The decision to become an Australian citizen is a very personal one, and is warmly welcomed by all Australians.
Citizenship shows commitment to Australia, its values, freedoms, responsibilities and protections. Australians are a diverse people brought together by our shared belief in the democratic process, respect for the rights and liberties of other Australians and a commitment to uphold and obey Australian laws.
Here in the Whitsundays, we boast a multicultural society, not only because of the many tourists that explore our pocket of paradise, but also due to the number of immigrants that have chosen to make this region their home.
Citizenship ceremonies take place at intervals throughout the year and are held at Whitsunday Regional Council meetings across the region. There is special focus placed on Australia Day when Council holds citizenship ceremonies across the region, many people choose to wait until 26 January each year to make their citizenship pledge on Australia Day.
Once your application for citizenship has been approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, Council will be contacted to notify you of the nominated date and location of your ceremony.
